The concept of setting aside any portion of one’s income begins in the first book of scripture: Bereshith otherwise known as Genesis. The children of Adam & Eve, Cain and Abel presented portions of their crops to Yah for a successful harvest. The same practice continued with Israel as they multiplied and enslaved in scripture.
When freed from Egyptian captivity, Israel wandered the desert for 40 years. In this juncture Moses their leader provided laws from Yahuah intended to separate them from other nations as the chosen people. Here the concept of offering “first fruits” grew into offering Yahuah a “tithe” also known as a tenth of ones income.
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 27:30 say, “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is Yahuahs: it is holy unto Yahuah.”
